Social Power – reflection paper (50 pts.)
Look over all of your responses up to this point (excluding 9/11 articles). Consider the literature we have read (two short stories, 2 poems, 2 non-fiction handouts), the discussions we’ve held, the activities we’ve done (WHS map, gender boxes, sexual harassment chart). After taking this all in, address the following question: what is the value in understanding power in our social relationships?
There are two ways you might approach this – personally or objectively.
If you have made any personal discoveries in this unit, you may be able to develop your thesis from this.
Personal thesis example: I’ve discovered that I have abused power in my social relationships.
If you haven’t made personal discoveries, you will probably choose to write objectively.
Objective thesis example: Failing to understand the power in social relationships can be unhealthy and even dangerous.
The key to this piece is 1) taking it all in and deciding on
the answer to the question, and 2) supporting
your paper with specifics from the literature, discussions, journals, and
activities.
